Helen Napalit

Helen NapalitHelen NapalitA Strong personality, Helen Napalit was self-made business woman back in her younger days. She worked tirelessly to put all her children to school.

She believes in education and God. That is what makes her a very influencial figure to this day. She continues to work to spread her convictions. Many in her hometown look to her for her leadership.

She overcome many of her challenges and grew from them. She has many stories which I can’t count now and can hardly remember. I would like to write them down.

I ask all those who knows her well to provide your tidbits of her life and the family’s history. That’ll be in the comments section. So I ask you to comment what you can gather from your experience with her. I did not live in those times so it’s harder to relate. Thanks.

One of my favorite memories of Lola Helen from my childhood happened one afternoon when I was young. This was during my attendance at St. Joseph’s School in one of the elementary grades. It was the end of the school day and I was at school waiting to be picked up to go home as usual, bored by the waiting and not really sure who or how soon I would eventually be collected. I was standing at the top of a stairwell from which I could see over the school gate and into the courtyard plaza of the adjoining church next to the school. There I was, waiting aimlessly when my vision suddenly catches some kid prancing towards the school gate like a giddy monkey with what seemed to be a bag full of toys. It did not take me long to recognize that this was my younger brother, and following closely behind him was Lola Helen. Naturally, I was full of bewildered joy and just about sprinted to meet them to join my brother’s symian celebratory leaping. Evidently, Lola Helen was picking me up that day and made a quick detour with my younger brother (who at the time was still too young for school) to one of the stalls that sold toys where she decided to buy a bagfull for me and my brother.
That is how I often think of her, I suppose; a doting grandmother who could not but indulge her grandchildren, who in turn could not help but love her dearly. A grandmother who, on one afternoon that promised to be ordinary, brought surprised jubilation to me and my brother with the help of a few toys. Right out of the blue.

I would like to know if Nang Helen is still alive. I’m the daughter of the late Dogoy and Inday Vero. Your grandparents are good friends of my family. I think my cousin, Ruth, is her godchild. Please let me know and give my love to her. She knows by Baby.
